Workout – Oh boy, today’s WOD sounds incredibly hard & long. I am so not looking forward to it, but at the same time excited to go in today! The Nutrition Challenge has been going ok for me. It’s a little easier this time around since I know what is expected & what I can/cannot eat when I go out to restaurants. It’s hard to control myself & I still tend to overeat, but I also know my metabolism is pretty high so that whatever I eat, I tend to get hungry pretty quickly soon afterwards. It’s only Week 2, so I have a long way to go. I weighed-in today & I am 116.8lb w/ clothes on, so I am back to my original weight when I did the first Nutrition Challenge back in early October. I still think the “loss” of 3lbs from the last challenge isn’t really accurate. They didn’t consider that women’s weight tends to fluctuate monthly (when we get our periods) & for those that retain water during that time of the month. Also, I weighed myself around 6pm both before & after the challenge. If I had weigh myself when I woke up, I tend to be a few pounds lighter. There are lots of inaccuracy that should be considered, but they are not. I am doing the challenge to try to control myself w/ food & am slowly trying to not overeat especially when I’m already full. On another note, JR noticed my arms are looking cut up & I think I agree. I’m not sure when or what happened, but I didn’t notice this last week. *shrug* Nevertheless, this is a very good thing!
WOD –5 Rounds Row 500m, 40 Double Unders, 30 Mountain Climbers, 20 Kettlebell Swings (53/35), 10 Toes To Bar For Time. My Results: 29:07 minutes.
I was right, this WOD was completely insane. I started & ended the WOD w/ exercises I do not like, nor do I do well with. Again, I was the last person to finish rowing. But I definitely caught up w/ everyone when I did double unders. I think the rope I used helped. I whizzed by those w/o any issues. For the first 3 rounds, I did 2 attempts to finish my 40. The last 2 rounds, I did 4 attempts to finish. One of the rounds, I messed up after 1 jump, & then I did 39 in a row. I am getting much better at double unders & it makes me proud! The Mountain Climbers are killers on the legs, but then went by ok. I did ok w/ KB swings too. But I struggled w/ Toes to Bar. It took me probably a minute just to finish 10. I will have to work on Rowing & TTB from now on because those are keeping me from getting a better time.

Crossfit Day 105
January 13, Friday
Workout – Thank goodness I’m finally not feeling so sore today. There’s a 1 mile run today which I’m dreading because it’s so cold outside (~20 degrees).
WOD –3 Rounds 15HSPU (box push ups), 20 Toes to Bar, 30 KB Swings (35lb) & finish w/ 1 mile Run For Time. My Results: 27:49 minutes.
The Box Push Ups did a number on my arms. Then the Toes to Bar were rough. I was having a hard time just hanging onto the bar. I tried my best to do complete TTB, but towards the end I had to modify to Knees to Arms. Argh, it’s so frustrating because my arms are so weak. I was getting shooting pains in my left arm from trying to hang on the bar. The KB swings went ok. I was really slow w/ the WOD. Then I ran out into the freezing cold. This time I wore a tank top, pull up & a fleece w/ my fuzzy fur trapper’s hat along w/ my workout gloves, so I stayed warm for the most part. But I started losing feeling to my thumb because I was wearing cut-off gloves. I will have to invest in a pair of running gloves to keep my hands warm. It took about 4 minutes back inside the gym before I got feeling to my thumb. It was numb & hurting so badly until I got it warmed up again. I will never do that again!

Workout – I am totally sore. My calves are shot from doing 250 double unders. They are a killer exercise & I’m sure they burned tons of calories. Too bad getting up & walking around the office is super difficult today. I feel like an old fogie.
WOD –”Jackie” Row 1000m, 50 Thrusters (45lb), 30 Pull-Ups (red) For Time. My Results: 17:17 minutes.
I was in the 2nd heat for the row & of course, I’m the very last to finish. At least I finished the 1000m in 4:57 minutes, which to me is pretty good. Anything under 5 minutes is good for me. I think I’m improving slightly. The thrusters were a killer on my arms, but I made through it. I was doing 4 at a time, then resting. The pull ups are always pretty difficult for me. Towards the end, I was doing only 2 at a time since my arms were practically dead. We finished with 50 Toes to Bar, but I only managed to do 30. I didn’t want any more incidences occurring.

WOD –5 Rounds 3 Rope Climb (15ft) (sub 1 Rope Climb & 10 Pulls Ups (red) or 9 Rope Climb from the Ground (RCG)), 10 Toes to Bars, 21 Overhead Walking Lunges (25lb), 400m Row for Time. My Results: 38:42 minutes.
Today’s WOD was incredibly difficult. I was excited about the rope climb, but quickly realized all the exercises were upper body intensive, so I was fatigued by the time I finished the first round of full rope climbs. I was 1 of only 2 people (CM) that attempted to do the full rope climbs. I was doing well for the first 2 climbs, but by the time I got to the 3rd one, I was tired & made it ¾ of the way up. I asked P for a sub so he told me to do 1 full rope climb plus 10 pull ups. I did that on my 2nd & 3rd round. By the 4th round, my arms were shot, so I went for the sub that most everyone else was doing, the 9 rope climbs starting from the ground & you pull yourself up to a standing position. Even that was difficult for me after doing all the full rope climbs. I knew I was way behind most everyone else at this point & somewhere in my head, I wanted to quit & end it after the 4th round. When I finished the 3rd round, P thought I was entering the 5th round, but no, I was only entering the 4th round. I was exhausted, but I kept myself going & finished dead last. I was ok w/ that because I was the only girl that did the rope climb & I’m pretty proud of myself for going for it & I ended up doing 5 full rope climbs. It was an excruciating painful & tiresome WOD, but I finished nonetheless!

Crossfit Day 88
November 28, Monday
Workout – I emailed the owner to have a birthday WOD for me on Monday & gave him a list of items. Since they call me C-squared (C^2) at CF, I decided everything would be squared. Most people were confused about the number of repetitions for the WOD & didn’t quite get it, but I thought it was fitting & appropriate for me. I wanted exercises that I can do pretty decently, but the owner changed some. I didn’t have a Rope Climb in it initially since most people couldn’t do it, but he added it in. I was a bit nervous going into CF today because it’s been 5 days since I’ve gone in w/ the Thanksgiving holiday & so many days off. I thought I would be unmotivated & fat from all the foods I’ve been eating especially since the Nutrition Challenge is now over.
WOD –C^2 Bday WOD 100 Air Squats, 81 Abmat Sit-ups, 64 Push-Ups (knee), 49 Double Unders, 36 Box Jumps (20”), 25 KB Swings (35#), 16 Toes to Bar, 9 Burpees, 400m Row, 1 Rope Climb. My Results: 23:57 minutes.
When I walked into CF today, JR. complained to me that this was the 1st time he’s felt like he wanted to puke during the WOD. Haha I’m glad it was a challenging WOD. Most people looked miserable doing it, but I was ready for it. We practiced Hand Power Cleans first for 10 minutes. To be honest, I really don’t think I like them much. Then we started my Bday WOD. The Air Squats & Sit-Ups did get tiresome since there are so many reps of them. The worst for me was the Push-ups since my upper body strength is still very weak. The Double Unders weren’t too bad. The Box Jumps could have gone better because my legs were pretty shot from the air squats, but still not too bad. The Rx for KB Swings was 53lb for girls, but it was too much for me to handle. I couldn’t find a 44lb, so I went w/ 35lbs. The Toes to Bars, Burpees & Row were okay. I wasn’t sprinting through the Row so it was all good. Finally, it was the Rope Climb. I was tired, but felt I could do it & I got up to the top & climbed back down. I didn’t think it was that bad of a WOD, & it was challenging. All in all, it was good. I enjoyed it & felt awesome afterwards. I had nothing to be nervous about earlier. :)

Crossfit Day 86 | Nutrition Challenge Day 43
November 21, Monday
Workout – The food I ate didn’t agree w/ my stomach today so everything was purged. I feel empty & tired. The raisins are the only thing left inside me & I know they will soon purge itself as well.
WOD –Jake’s Bday 10 Front Squats (65lb), 26 Box Jumps (20”), 9 FS, 26 Double Unders, 8 FS, 26 Push Ups (knee), 7 FS, 26 Box Jumps, 6 FS, 26 Double Unders, 5 FS, 26 Push Ups, 4 FS, 26 Box Jumps, 3 FS, 26 Double Unders, 2 FS, 26 Push Ups, 1 FS for Time. My Results: 19:20 minutes.
I was feeling sluggish today. I felt like I was in slow-motion. I know I could have done the WOD faster if I had done a proper warm up. I only had time for the foam roller so I was still pretty cold before the WOD. I think I still did okay though. The Front Squats were pretty challenging. We had to do a deadlift, then a power clean to get the bar onto our shoulders, & then we’d do the Front Squats. It was best to do them unbroken, meaning to do all 10 reps without putting the bar down on the floor, so I did that w/ all my reps. They were pretty tough & takes a lot out of you. I breezed through the box jumps, which is one of my strong exercises. I know I could have done the Double Unders better & the Push Ups are always hard for me due to my shoulders being so weak, even though I did them on my knees. I did the best I could for today. Afterwards, we did 50 Toes to Bars for Time. I was able to do 7 in a row this time, which is the most I’ve done thus far! I was lax w/ doing 50 for time because I was helping K out in between, but I finished them in 11:03 minutes. It’s not a great time, but I can actually put a time for it now. I wasn’t able to even do 50 before, but now I can. I hope I only get better as I practice more.

Crossfit Day 83 | Nutrition Challenge Day 37
November 15, Tuesday
Workout – I’m still feeling a bit unmotivated today, but I’m going to force myself to go in anyway. I felt like I could have done better at yesterday’s WOD, but I was feeling sluggish. I hope today is a little better. I am going insanely mad due to the Nutrition Challenge. I have had PMS for a whole week prior to my period & I NEVER get PMS, so it’s definitely the foods I’m eating (or not eating) that’s causing me to be emotional. I don’t think this is a good thing. I want this challenge to be over already, but there’s another week left, which is completely maddening. I want to eat everything I can’t eat right now!!!
WOD – 20min AMRAP 4HSPU (modified box push ups), 6 Ring Dips (blue), 8 KB Swings (70/53 35), 10 Toes to Bars. My Results: 8 sets + 4|6|8|4.
I did decent for today’s WOD. The Toes to Bars were the toughest for me to do. The rest were simple & low reps so they were easy. I took a long time to do my toes to bar. I hate them because my arms are so weak & I get tired very easily when I just hang on the bar. I was able to do 3 in a row, but then I can only do 1-2 after that. I need to keep getting stronger because it’s taking me too long to do them.

Crossfit Day 80, Nutrition Challenge Day 31
November 9, Wednesday
Workout – I was having a really crappy day yesterday. My mood was gloomy & sad the whole day & night. I figured the WOD would keep my mind busy for 45 minutes & it did for the most part, but there were a few moments that made me think of my crappy day. I need to learn to let things go & be more patient, w/ everything. After a long talk w/ V in which I was pretty down & harsh on myself, but at the same time it was a great catharsis of all that I’ve been holding back. I’m so grateful for him. Back to discussing the workout. After doing 250 double unders from yesterday’s WOD, my calves/legs are really feeling it today. It’s a good thing because I know my body still isn’t used to all the CF exercises & is still being constantly challenged. I’ve admitted to cheating on the Nutrition Challenge again. I realized the bologna I ate last week might have added sugar, although I can’t be 100% positive because mom gave it to me. This diet is pretty hard to keep up w/ but I’m doing the best I can & I think I’m sticking to it for the most part.
WOD – Lara’s Bday WOD – At the top of every minute, do 3 Burpees – 28 Deadlifts (42lb), 28 Toes to Bar, 28 Hang Cleans into a Squat (42lb), 28 Overhead Walking Lunge (25lb), 28 Push Jerk (42lb) for Time. My Results: 23:40 minutes.
Lara’s Bday WOD was tough. The deadlifts were probably the easiest part of the whole WOD. The most annoying were the 3 Burpees at the top of every minute. I ended up doing 69 of them in total. I hate Burpees w/ a passion! I tried my best w/ Toes to Bar. I still can only do 1-2 at a time, but I think I’m slowly getting better. The Hang Cleans were extremely tiring because you have to do a squat each time. Boy did they burn. I always have trouble w/ the OHWL because my arms just get so darned tired. And the Push Jerks were last, so we’re already dead tired at this point. I was doing about 6-8 of them per minute & it seemed to have taken forever. It was definitely tough today, but it felt great to finish.

Crossfit Day 72, Nutrition Challenge Day 16

Workout – I’m looking forward to tonight’s WOD because it looks like it’ll be hard & I feel like I’ve been lazy the past 3 days, so I need to push myself hard. I cooked a lot on Sunday so I’ve been pretty good w/ the Nutrition Challenge & I do not feel like I’m starving. The weekends are still the hardest part because I can’t control what others put in the foods, especially in a restaurant, but I’m trying to pick the best options for me.
WOD – 1200m Run, 120 Double Unders, 900m Run, 90 Air Squats, 600m Run, 60 KB Swings (35lb), 300m Run, 30 Ring Dips (blue) for Time. My Results: 29:40 minutes.
There were a bunch of guys & 4 girls doing this WOD. For the run, I was actually 2nd to last for awhile, but then I ran ahead of Danielle when she got tired & I was getting my rhythm going. I was able to do the double unders fairly quickly, which surprised me. I am definitely getting better at them. 2 of the guys were way ahead of so they started their 600m run when I was going for my 900m run. I was ahead of them & I heard them behind me, but I made sure they never passed me. I kept a really good pace & I was able to finish w/o being completely winded. The air squats were exhausting. I kept going on my toes instead of staying on my heel, but I tried to correct myself. After about 40, they got really difficult. I continued slowly & didn’t stop. Once done, I did the 600m run. My legs were feeling funny after the air squats, but I got my legs back after 100m. The kb swings are always tiring, but I got though them okay. After about 30, I started only doing sets of 3-4. Another run, then it was off to the ring dips. I still use the band to assist me, so they weren’t too bad. I don’t think I’m ready to downgrade the band just yet because the ring dips put a lot of strain on my shoulders that I don’t want. I can’t afford to injure my shoulder any more than it already is. I finished ahead of at least 2 of the guys & all of the girls, so that was pretty satisfying. We had to do 50 Toes to Bars for Time afterwards. I was able to do 10 in 3:30 minutes, which means it would have taken me over 15 min to finish. I didn’t even attempt to finish. I practiced a few kipping pull ups instead. I can still only do one & need to rest, but I’m still happy I’m able to do them.
Workout – I’m looking forward to tonight’s WOD because it looks like it’ll be hard & I feel like I’ve been lazy the past 3 days, so I need to push myself hard. I cooked a lot on Sunday so I’ve been pretty good w/ the Nutrition Challenge & I do not feel like I’m starving. The weekends are still the hardest part because I can’t control what others put in the foods, especially in a restaurant, but I’m trying to pick the best options for me.
WOD – 1200m Run, 120 Double Unders, 900m Run, 90 Air Squats, 600m Run, 60 KB Swings (35lb), 300m Run, 30 Ring Dips (blue) for Time. My Results: 29:40 minutes.
There were a bunch of guys & 4 girls doing this WOD. For the run, I was actually 2nd to last for awhile, but then I ran ahead of Danielle when she got tired & I was getting my rhythm going. I was able to do the double unders fairly quickly, which surprised me. I am definitely getting better at them. 2 of the guys were way ahead of so they started their 600m run when I was going for my 900m run. I was ahead of them & I heard them behind me, but I made sure they never passed me. I kept a really good pace & I was able to finish w/o being completely winded. The air squats were exhausting. I kept going on my toes instead of staying on my heel, but I tried to correct myself. After about 40, they got really difficult. I continued slowly & didn’t stop. Once done, I did the 600m run. My legs were feeling funny after the air squats, but I got my legs back after 100m. The kb swings are always tiring, but I got though them okay. After about 30, I started only doing sets of 3-4. Another run, then it was off to the ring dips. I still use the band to assist me, so they weren’t too bad. I don’t think I’m ready to downgrade the band just yet because the ring dips put a lot of strain on my shoulders that I don’t want. I can’t afford to injure my shoulder any more than it already is. I finished ahead of at least 2 of the guys & all of the girls, so that was pretty satisfying. We had to do 50 Toes to Bars for Time afterwards. Crossfit Day 68, Nutrition Challenge Day 9

Workout – Today’s WOD sounds brutal. I am so not looking forward to it. Just thinking about it is making me quite nervous. I got a lot of rest last night since I was feeling a cold coming on & had a rummy nose, but I think my body needs more rest. This cooler weather is not agreeing w/ me whatsoever & I know it’s only going to get worse.
WOD – 100m Overhead Carry (25lb), 50 Jumping Lunges, 30 Toes to Bar, 100m Overhead Carry (25lb), 35 Jumping Lunges, 20 Toes to Bar, 100m Overhead Carry (25lb), 20 Jumping Lunges, 10 Toes to Bar, 100m Overhead Carry for Time. My Results: 15:44 minutes.
I did Shoulder Press – 5-5-3-3-2-2 & I was able to do 33-39-45-49-54-54lb. This is my new best for shoulder presses. They’re hard because you can’t do a dip w/ your knees to help push it up. I tried to do 59lb, but it was just too much for me, but I’m still happy w/ 54lb. It was another brutal WOD. I was happy the Overhead carry walk was only for 100m. I tried not to take any breaks & I was doing great until the last one, which I took a small break & continued along. The jumping lunges gets long & tiresome & then I had little to no strength for the toes to bar. I barely was able to get my toes to the bar on 95% of them. We finished w/ 3x20 GHD Sit-Ups.

Workout – I’m nervous as sh*t today. My thighs are tight from the overhead walking lunges & my back from the hip extensions. I guess it’s a good thing to be nervous, but I’ve been more nervous lately especially right before the WOD. Maybe I doubt myself more? Or maybe everything is more challenging now so I really need to improve on everything. I’m not sure what it is, but I know I’ve been jittery nervous lately & I don’t like it one bit.
WOD – 2 min Max Distance Row, 1 min Rest, 2 min Max Rep Wall Ball (6 – 10 ft target), 1 min Rest, 2 min Max Rep Kettlebell Swings (35), 1 min Rest, 2 min Max Rep Burpees, 1 min Rest, 1000m Row for Time. My Results: 428m row, 33 wall ball, 30 kettlebell swings, 18 burpees. My Results: 1000m Row 5:12 minutes.
It felt like a long one today. I was in group 2 to start since we didn’t have enough rowing machines. The rowing was more of a sprint to try to do as fast as you can. I still stink at rowing. The 1 minute rest in between is not enough. Then off to wall balls. I did the 6lb ball, but I think I can go up in weight next time. I am getting better at them then I used to be, but I still dislike them. The kb swings we had to do Games Standard, which means it has to go directly overhead & you have to pause briefly before bringing it back down. They made it harder, but I was still able to do the 35lb kb. And the burpees are horrendous. I hate them. Again, Games Standard, so after you do a burpee, you get up & jump on top of a 45lb plate, making sure to open up your hips. The last 1000m was draining. I couldn’t feel my hands & forearms after awhile. I was the last to finish because I’m so slow w/ rowing. It was another tough WOD. Then we finished w/ 3 sets x Max Reps Toes to Bar – 2-2-1 rep. I can hardly do 2 in a row, but I’m still going to keep trying to get better at them.

Workout – I’m still feeling unmotivated & tired today. I’ll force myself to go to CF, but I know I always feel 100x better once I’m done w/ my WOD, so it’s always worth the effort.
WOD – 30 minute AMRAP – 300m run, Max Rep Toes to Bar, 300m run, Max Rep Hand Release Push-Ups, 300m run, 50 Double Unders.
It was drizzling outside, but we still went out to do our run. My sneakers were getting soaked from the rain & the floor inside the gym was getting damp. I still have to take my sneakers off when doing double unders because it’s so much easier to do that way. I also put a vball knee pad over my right arm so the double unders don’t whip lash my arm anymore. It helped tremendously. I am still working on my toes to bar. They are difficult for me because I get tired from hanging on the bar for too long. I was able to do at least 2 in a row (w/ my toes completely touching the bar) while the others were really, really near the bar, but didn’t touch, so that’s still an improvement for me. The HRPU were okay. We weren’t allowed to do them on our knees so I tried my hardest to keep my back in plank position, but when you’re tired, it’s pretty darn hard to do that. I figured I can do more HRPU compared to Toes to Bar so I took my time w/ the HRPU. By the time I was done w/ them & off on my 300m run, my arms were so sore that I could barely move them on my run. The double unders went ok for me. I think I’m getting better at them. The WOD was long but it went by faster than I though. For the last run, I wanted to get back inside to at least start my last set of double unders, so I sprinted that last 300m. I passed Desiree & Maureen & got a moving on my double unders. That was kind of exciting. The last of my energy was completely drained by that, but it still felt great. I do have to admit the WOD was pretty exhausting.>

Workout – I feel like a lard @ss after eating so much in Canada. I’m hoping I can do the WOD for today. It’s also been raining since Monday so I’m scared the roads will be flooded again so I’ll take the long way there.
WOD – 3 Rounds 500m Row, 40 Push-Ups, 30 V-Ups, 20 Ring Dips, 10 Toes to Bar for Time. My Results: 29:19 minutes.
I came in 15 minutes late due to the rain & people can’t seem to drive when it’s raining. It’s so frustrating. I hate hate hate being late. And of course, T had to see me late for the 3rd time. I had to skip the back squats that everyone did before the WOD. So there were 13 people today & only 6 rowing machines. They did 3 groups. I was in group 3 which was ONLY ME! *sigh* That’s what I get for getting there late. I had to wait 5:30 minutes before I started rowing. *double sigh* It wasn’t too bad because when Round 2 came around, a lot of the people had to wait for others to finish rowing, while I had no wait at all. I continued through the WOD & I caught up to some of the people in the 1st group. I actually finished faster than a lot of the girls, so that felt pretty good.
I did my Back Squat after the WOD. We had to do 8-8-8-8 starting @ 70% of 1RM. I did 45-55-65-75lb. 8 repetitions gets pretty tough so I was glad I did the weight that I did. My 1RM is 105lb, so 70% is just about 75lb. There’s a new machine at CF called the Reverse Hyper. I had A (another trainer) show me how to use it. It was pretty tough even w/o any weight on it & it’s not something that’s made for a small woman, but it was cool trying it out. It stretches your back & works your glutes.

Crossfit Day 38

Workout – I am so dreading today because I’m afraid I’ll get lost or have major detours yet again. I can’t do 1.5 hour drives just to get to CF. I mean I am dedicated & all, but it’s getting ridiculous! I left work an hour early & had mapped a different route to CF. It was looking like I was going to be early, but then I hit more road blocks & flooded roads. I finally got to a flooded road but cars looked like they were okay crossing it, so I went through as well. I had to close the windows because the water was flying up on both sides. I had to go through 2 flooded roads in order to get to CF & I was early. Thank goodness. Too bad the water did something to my car & I now experience weird chugging noises coming from my car. I hope whatever water got into my car dried off so it’ll be okay again. *sigh* I can’t win can I?
WOD – “Irene” dedicated to Hurricane Irene – 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 Thrusters (32lb), Sumo Deadlift High Pulls (32lb), Burpees My Results: 17:52 minutes.
This is the 2nd time I’m doing thrusters & they get tough. I stuck w/ the same weight I used the 1st time. The Sumo Deadlift high pulls weren’t too difficult, but the burpees are just annoying. I really do hate them. By the time I got to the 8 repetitions set, I was exhausted & wanted to quit. I think I felt like I wanted to puke too, but I continued. I was dripping w/ sweat throughout the WOD. It was definitely a tough one. We were assigned 50 Toes to Bars to do after the WOD. I actually did 25 real Toes to Bars!!! I can’t believe it. I was so ecstatic w/ myself. I mean sure, I was slow w/ them & I can only do 1 at a time & need to rest in between but I was able to do real ones!!!!! I practiced Hand Stands too w/ the help of Desiree & Kristen, but I wasn’t able to hold it for long. My head keeps slamming against the wall & my arms want to bend. I still need much more practice w/ them.

Crossfit Day 32

Workout – No headache today. Thank goodness. I had good sleep last night so I think that was the culprit. Sleep really does cure all ailments.
WOD –(Same as Day 5 on 7/12) 5 Rounds 50 Double Unders, 15 Pull-Ups (red & purple band), 15 Ring Dips for Time. My Results: 33:10 minutes.
We did this WOD on my 2nd day of my unlimited month, but I only attempted 20 double unders + 100 single jumps & the pull-ups w/ the green band, so the WOD was slightly different, but I can say I can now do more double unders in succession (~10 w/ a single jump in between) & I now use the red/purple band for pull-ups. The ring dips haven’t changed w/ the use of the blue band. My time today was 12 seconds slower compared to 7/12, but that is because I actually did 50 double unders for each round & my pull-ups are more difficult. I am still proud of my accomplishments. After 5 minutes of rest, we had to do 50 Toes to Bar. I only did 25 but I was finally able to do 2 REAL Toes to Bars!!! I was pretty excited since I was never able to do it before. Yippee! All in all, it was a challenging WOD & I was able to accomplish one thing on my list & that was to do a complete Toes to bar.

Crossfit Day 29

I'm not even how how I got this. I saw it while in the dressing room trying on shorts. *shrug*
Workout – My legs were pretty sore from yesterday’s WOD. I walked into the CF gym & there were tons of people today. There were only 5 people yesterday & only 3 of us (me, D & K) did the WOD. Pat said it’s because no one likes to do snatches or the Olympic lifts. Wow, it didn’t even occur to me that people pick & choose which WODs they want to do. I think that’s because I bought the unlimited month & I want to make the most of it, so I go as much as possible. But I’m sure others only have the 8 or 12 session/month package which limits them & they’ll choose only the WODs they want to do. That makes sense. I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me before. I didn’t really know too many people so it felt a bit intimidating again. The few people I did know haven’t come in as much lately. Many of the people have been there for a lot longer & they all know each other or knew each other from before, or they have their significant other going to CF w/ them, but I still don’t really know too many people. I don’t feel very sociable & don’t even know what to talk to people about. *sigh* I think it’ll be better when it’s an organized class instead of Thursdays, which is do your own thing day. I still like Thursdays only because I can try out a WOD that Vince did or another one that I missed from weeks before. I like that option of trying something new.
WOD –2 Rounds 60 GHD Hip Extension, 50 Sit-ups (w/ Ab Mat), 40 Toes to Bar (attempts), 30 V-ups, 20 Plank to Push-up, 10 Burpees for Time. My Results: 33:34 minutes.
This was an intensive abdominals WOD that V had done a week or so ago at his CF box. I asked the trainer for advice & he said he wouldn’t recommend the WOD because it’s overkill for the abs. I told him I’ll try 1 round & see how I feel. I went through 1 round & thought I could finish 2, so I continued. By the time I got to the V-ups again, I was struggling w/ them. I finished up & was all sweaty from the WOD. It was a tough WOD but it was definitely different from all the ones we have done in the past. I still feel really good after the WOD, so I hope this feeling continues.

Workout – I’m nervous about today’s WOD. It looks really intense. My stomach is already turning. I always have this nervous energy whenever I know I have a WOD to do, but once I’m there, I’m pumped for the WOD. Let’s hope this one goes over well.
WOD – Rick’s Bday WOD – Complete the following for Time: 31 Calorie Row, 31 Front Squats (45lb), 31 Box Jumps (20”), 31 Toes to Bar, 31 Push Ups, 31 KB Swings (35), 31 Pull Ups (blue & purple band), 31 Jumping Lunges (2-for-1), 31 Burpees, 31 Double Unders My Results: 35:14 minutes.
Oh my goodness, that WOD was insane. I felt so completely out of shape during the entire WOD. I was slow w/ the row, & then I struggled w/ the front squats. My legs just wouldn’t cooperate. I was thinking it was from the 100 Air Squats I did the day before. I took my time & tried my best, but 31 repetitions are annoying! I was able to do the box jumps but I did rest in between. The toes to bar were difficult for me since I still can’t get my toes all the way up yet. For the push ups, the trainer came by & told me to keep my body in the plank position even if I have to do them on my knees. I’ve been doing push ups improperly since I hate them so much. Grrrrrr! The KB swings went ok, but we had to aim for almost overhead this time & the drop always gets my footing off kilter. The pull ups started off ok, but got harder & harder when having to do 31 of them. The jumping lunges completely, positively sucked! I hate them too. They get you so exhausted & it is 2-for-1 which means each leg only counts as .5! Argh! The burpees always stink too. I’m wondering if I’m doing them wrong too. I think I’m supposed to be in a push up position when I’m on the floor. I’ll check w/ the trainers because I feel like I’m cheating myself if I have the wrong form. To end it all were the double unders. I took off my sneakers & it was slightly easier to do them. I was able to do about 4 in a row (w/ a single jump in between), but I counted attempts as well because by that time, I had no more energy left in me. The WOD was incredible long & hard & I did not enjoy it one bit.

Oh my goodness, that WOD was insane. I felt so completely out of shape during the entire WOD. I was slow w/ the row, & then I struggled w/ the front squats. My legs just wouldn’t cooperate. I was thinking it was from the 100 Air Squats I did the day before. I took my time & tried my best, but 31 repetitions are annoying! I was able to do the box jumps but I did rest in between. The toes to bar were difficult for me since I still can’t get my toes all the way up yet. For the push ups, the trainer came by & told me to keep my body in the plank position even if I have to do them on my knees. I’ve been doing push ups improperly since I hate them so much. Grrrrrr! The KB swings went ok, but we had to aim for almost overhead this time & the drop always gets my footing off kilter. The pull ups started off ok, but got harder & harder when having to do 31 of them. The jumping lunges completely, positively sucked! I hate them too. They get you so exhausted & it is 2-for-1 which means each leg only counts as .5! Argh! The burpees always stink too. I’m wondering if I’m doing them wrong too. I think I’m supposed to be in a push up position when I’m on the floor. I’ll check w/ the trainers because I feel like I’m cheating myself if I have the wrong form. To end it all were the double unders. I took off my sneakers & it was slightly easier to do them. I was able to do about 4 in a row (w/ a single jump in between), but I counted attempts as well because by that time, I had no more energy left in me. The WOD was incredible long & hard & I did not enjoy it one bit.

Crossfit Day 24
August 10, Wednesday
Workout – Feeling hungry this week. I think it’s hormonal. I’ve been eating tons of fruits this week. I think I should eat more veggies since fruits have a lot of natural sugars, but they are so darn tasty & juicy especially during the summer months.
WOD – “Elizabeth” 21-15-9 reps – Squat Clean (42lb), Ring Dips (blue band - body should remain vertical & not fold over at the hip) for Time. My Results: 10:27 minutes.
We went over the Squat Cleans. I always forget what the Olympic lifts are. We start from the floor & raise the bar to mid thigh, then jump the bar, turn our arms & elbows underneath for the bar to land on the shoulders. As we’re doing this, we go into a squat position, & then stand back up. The squats are a killer w/ the added weight. I tried 52lb at first but thought it was too hard so I went down to 42lb. That was still very challenging for me since we have to go into the squat. It is very intensive. Then we go right into Ring Dips which I had assistance from the blue band. I just took my time to do the squat cleans properly. I was able to finish pretty quickly. I was amazed myself. At the time, 10 minutes seems like forever. Afterwards, we did 3x20 Toes to Bar. I still cannot get my toes to the bar yet, but I’m working on it. My core is getting a good workout from my attempts & I am hoping to get it strong enough to be able to do one properly sometime this year. Haha I have to say, doing 60 of them gets really, really tiresome.

Crossfit Day 13
July 25, MondayWorkout – I feel nauseous right before I leave the office to go to Crossfit. Just the thought of Crossfit makes me nervous. And I need the bathroom excessively beforehand. It’s my nervous twitch. But once I’m there, I’m pumped for what’s to come.
WOD – 3 rounds for 18 minutes – 1 min row (count calories), 1 min ring dips (blue band), 1 min double unders (jump rope), 1 min dumbbell push press (15lb), 1 min toes to bars, 1 min rest. My Results: 61-66-70 for a total of 197.
We did 3 rounds of 5 – 1 min exercises with a 1 min break after the exercises. It started off pretty well. I rowed furiously for 1 minute which only burned 11 calories. Then I couldn’t take my foot straps off fast enough so I lost some time then ran to my ring dip station (which was on the far side of the gym), then did my dips. I feel like it was easier for me to do the ring dips this time, which might mean I’m a little stronger now. Then off to do double unders. I still struggle w/ them, but I’ll have to keep practicing to get better. Next was the dumbbell push presses. The 15lb weight was good for me, heavy enough to keep me challenged. They get really tiring. Then lastly were the toes to bars. I was not able to get one full one, but I got closer this time. My swing was wider & my legs rose higher. I need to get my core (abs) & arms more engaged & continue to work on it. I pushed a little harder for the 2nd round & I did a few more repetitions. For the last round I pushed myself even more & I felt like I could have almost thrown up towards the end while doing toes to bar. I stopped when I hit 70, otherwise I might have actually thrown up. It was a good, challenging work-out. It’s keeping me on my toes & everyday it is something different. Afterwards, I did 3x20 GHD Hip Extensions. They get really tiring. Then I did 30 sit-ups on the ab mat. Today was a good day. I was feeling really slow & sluggish all this, and this was a great pick-me-up to end the day.

Crossfit Day 11
July 21, Thursday
Workout – I am so sore today. Everything is sore. Arms, legs, back, abs, everything! I still muster some energy to go to Crossfit. It was our day to work on anything we wanted. I asked the trainer (Pat) to show me how to use the rowing machine properly. He showed me the 3 steps of rowing. 1) Push w/ your legs, 2) Open your hips, 3) Pull w/ your arms & you return in the opposite order (arms, hips, legs). It was different rowing knowing that I’ve been doing it wrong all these years. I did 1000m row warmup (~6 minutes), & then had Pat show me kipping pull-ups. I tried the blue & purple band this time & it seems to work pretty well. I’m still practicing the technique but I think I’ll eventually get it. He also showed me Toe to Bars. He actually had me lay on the floor holding onto a regular bar above my head, & then bringing my toes to the bar. Then he had me activate my arms while doing the same motion & it was much easier to do. I need to remember that when I practice on the real pull-up bar. I also practiced the Overhead Squats. I have trouble keeping the bar overhead. Another girl at the gym, Desiree, helped me out by suggesting taking my shoes off because the air cushion on the back doesn’t help w/ keep my heels on the ground. I tried the 22lb bar & it was a challenge for me. I stayed at the gym for about 2 hours just practicing & trying to get better & stronger. My arms definitely are killing me now & I have one blister in the middle of my right hand. Ouch.
