Crossfit Day 113

February 2, Thursday

Workout – I want to challenge myself today w/ a ridiculous WOD that I missed from 1/18, so I’m pretty nervous & excited. I hope I finish w/ a good time.

WOD – (from 1/18) ”Nutts” 10 HSPU (Box Push Ups), 15 Deadlifts (105lb), 25 Box Jumps (24”), 50 Pull-Ups (red), 100 Wall Balls (8lb), 200 Double Unders, 400m Run w/ 45lb Plate For Time. My Results: 33:30 minutes.

Everyone called me Nuts for doing this WOD on a lazy Thursday, but I was determined to do it. I brought in all my gear – long sleeve, ear muffs, weight lifting gloves, running gloves, & headlamp. I did the box push ups, then the deadlifts w/o any issues. Once I did my first box jump when I opened my hips at the top of the box, that was when I felt all the deadlifts I had done just before. It was a little tough opening my hips for the box jumps considering it’s a higher box than I normally do, but I was able to adjust & finish them quickly. Then my nemesis, the pull-ups, was next. I was able to finish them, but it took me awhile. The wall balls went by much better than usual, which could also mean I need to add more weight next time. I still need proper squatting form, so I need to work on that first. Then it was the double unders. I was able to do about 30-40 at a time w/ a bit of rest in between. I was killing the double unders & I was super excited w/ myself. Finally, the 400m run w/ a 45lb plate. I was ready to carry the plate in front of me, which is super hard & tiring, but luckily Matt said it would be easier to rest it on the top of my back & carrying it that way. He helped get it on my back & I was able to do it but it was more like a fast walk than a run. When I got back to the doors, I realized I couldn’t open the door! Haha I had to struggle to get the weight off my back & open the door. That was pretty tough, but I finished in a good time. It was one of those WODs that you are so proud of yourself for attempting & finishing. I felt awesome when it was done, albeit a bit tired. haha

Crossfit Day 112

February 1, Wednesday

Workout – My upper body is super sore today from the push jerks. I knew the weight would do this to me, but I am slowly working on my upper body strength. I also need to work on flexibility.

WOD –”Nate” 20 minute AMRAP 2 Muscle Ups (sub 6 Pull-Ups (purple & unassisted) & 6 Ring Dips (red)), 4 HSPU (sub Box Push Ups), 8 Kettlebell Swings (53lb). My Results: 7 Rounds + 4 Pull Ups.

We were to challenge ourselves during this AMRAP. If we used red band for pull-ups, we would go down to the purple band, same for ring dips & HSPU (remove a mat if you use 1, etc). I did the first 6 rounds w/ the purple band for pull-ups. B told me that it’s easier w/o a band, so for the 7th round & the last 4 pull-ups, I tried unassisted. This is the first time I’ve ever done unassisted pull-ups in any WOD, so I was pretty proud of myself. Sure I didn’t do them consecutively, but I tried & got them one at a time & I’m pretty proud of myself! I used red band for ring dips & they were still pretty tough on my arms, but I was able to do them properly. I went w/ the 53lb KB this time. It’s my first time trying them & it was definitely challenging since it’s nearly ½ my entire body weight, but I think I did fairly well w/ them. So this was a very challenging WOD for me & I’m pretty happy w/ the results. We finished w/ 90 seconds Hollow Hold. They are rough!

Crossfit Day 103

January 11, Wednesday
Workout – I am totally sore. My calves are shot from doing 250 double unders. They are a killer exercise & I’m sure they burned tons of calories. Too bad getting up & walking around the office is super difficult today. I feel like an old fogie.

WOD –”Jackie” Row 1000m, 50 Thrusters (45lb), 30 Pull-Ups (red) For Time. My Results: 17:17 minutes.

I was in the 2nd heat for the row & of course, I’m the very last to finish. At least I finished the 1000m in 4:57 minutes, which to me is pretty good. Anything under 5 minutes is good for me. I think I’m improving slightly. The thrusters were a killer on my arms, but I made through it. I was doing 4 at a time, then resting. The pull ups are always pretty difficult for me. Towards the end, I was doing only 2 at a time since my arms were practically dead. We finished with 50 Toes to Bar, but I only managed to do 30. I didn’t want any more incidences occurring.

Crossfit at Home Gym Day 100.5

January 5, Thursday
Workout – I am extremely sore today. Walking down the stairs is so freaking hard. My arms are swollen & it’s hard for me to take off my clothes. I feel like how I did the first 3 days of Crossfit, only slightly better. Yikes! I really shouldn’t be away from CF for too long else I’ll have to feel like this again! I missed the deadline to sign up for today’s class, so I ended up going to my own gym to do a made-up WOD.

WOD –3 Rounds 400m Row, 21 2-for-1 Jumping Lunges, 12 Burpees For Time. My Results: 15:35 minutes.

I worked on my Deadlifts first to find my 1RM since I missed Monday’s session. I ended up doing 65-75-85-95-105-115-125-135-145-155lb. That’s my highest thus far, 155lb! I tried 165 but it wouldn’t budge. It took me over 30 minutes to finish doing deadlifts & I was sweating from it. Then I did my own WOD at my gym. There wasn’t anyone there, so it was good that I could experiment w/ the equipment we have to set up future WODs that I can do while away from the CF box. I tried some pull ups, but would definitely need a band to aid me. I can’t do wall balls since the ceilings are pretty low & we don’t have kettlebells but I can substitute it w/ dbs. I can work w/ this.

Crossfit Day 100

January 4, Wednesday
Workout – I am so sore today from yesterday’s WOD. This is what happens when you’re away for 2 weeks. I feel good that I’m back at CF, but walking down the stairs is a killer on my quads. My abs are sore too.

WOD – “Cindy ” 20 min AMRAP 5 Pull Ups (red), 10 Push Ups (knee), 15 Air Squats. My Results: 13 sets + 3 pull ups.

Today is my 100th day at Crossfit! WhooHoo! It took me 6 months to get here, but it feels great that I’ve kept up w/ this for so long. Today was definitely a rough WOD. Luckily the pull ups were only in increments of 5. The push ups got really rough even though I did them on my knees. The air squats are pretty easy for me, so I flew by those. By the end of it all, I just couldn’t feel my arms anymore. They were rough. We finished w/ 1 min of Hollow Hold. I hate them w/ a passion.

Crossfit Day 95

December 13, Tuesday
Workout
– I’ve been gone from CF for 5 days & I’m really not feeling motivated. I didn’t get enough rest either since I just came back from Toronto last night. But I know I’ll feel better once I’m there, so here’s hoping for the best.

WOD – 4-8-12-16-20 reps of Pull Ups (red), 2 for 1 Jumping Lunges, Ring Dips for Time. My Results: 12:57 minutes. Rest 3 minutes. Run/Row 1000m For Time. My Results: 6:42 minutes.

I think the pull ups went fairly well. I didn’t burn my stomach this time, though I still have a scar mark from Bradshaw. The jumping lunges got annoying, but still were okay. The ring dips went ok. I wanted to row, but since I was the 7th person to finish, I didn’t want to have to wait another 3+ minutes until someone was done, so I went for the run instead w/ MV. It was dark & cold outside & I was wearing a tank top, but I still went out there w/ my light. I know I could have done faster, but it was dark & I really didn’t want to risk a twisted ankle. Plus I was wearing my new New Balance Minimus Train sneakers w/ Vibram soles, so I was afraid I would be extremely sore afterwards since I’m not used to running in “barefoot” technology & am trying to ease myself into running barefoot. Luckily, my legs felt okay afterwards. We ended w/ 4 min plank. I did 3 mins uninterrupted, then the last minute w/ rest in between. I was a bit slow today, but I still felt good afterwards.

Crossfit Day 94

December 7, Wednesday
WOD
–5 Rounds 3 Rope Climb (15ft) (sub 1 Rope Climb & 10 Pulls Ups (red) or 9 Rope Climb from the Ground (RCG)), 10 Toes to Bars, 21 Overhead Walking Lunges (25lb), 400m Row for Time. My Results: 38:42 minutes.
Today’s WOD was incredibly difficult. I was excited about the rope climb, but quickly realized all the exercises were upper body intensive, so I was fatigued by the time I finished the first round of full rope climbs. I was 1 of only 2 people (CM) that attempted to do the full rope climbs. I was doing well for the first 2 climbs, but by the time I got to the 3rd one, I was tired & made it ¾ of the way up. I asked P for a sub so he told me to do 1 full rope climb plus 10 pull ups. I did that on my 2nd & 3rd round. By the 4th round, my arms were shot, so I went for the sub that most everyone else was doing, the 9 rope climbs starting from the ground & you pull yourself up to a standing position. Even that was difficult for me after doing all the full rope climbs. I knew I was way behind most everyone else at this point & somewhere in my head, I wanted to quit & end it after the 4th round. When I finished the 3rd round, P thought I was entering the 5th round, but no, I was only entering the 4th round. I was exhausted, but I kept myself going & finished dead last. I was ok w/ that because I was the only girl that did the rope climb & I’m pretty proud of myself for going for it & I ended up doing 5 full rope climbs. It was an excruciating painful & tiresome WOD, but I finished nonetheless!

Crossfit Day 87 | Last Day of Nutrition Challenge Day 44

November 22, Tuesday
Workout – Today is the last day of the Nutrition Challenge. I’m excited that it’s over, but sad at the same time. I did get used to eating this way & it’ll be hard to incorporate everything back into my diet now. It had its frustrating moments but I did enjoy cooking & trying out new recipes. It was definitely challenging & trying at times, but I got through 44 days w/ only 5 cheats. I’m pretty proud of myself. I weighed in before the WOD. My starting weight on 10/7/11 was 116.6lb. My ending weight on 11/22/11 is 113.2lb. I lost a total of 3.4lbs!!! With some fancy calculations, I lost 2.9% of my total body weight. I was SHOCKED because I didn’t feel like I lost any weight & I’m amazed because I don’t lose weight easily. I basically lost an average of 0.5lb a week. Wow. No one thought I had any weight to lose, even myself. I was okay w/ the weight I was before & I’m okay w/ the weight I am at now. I just wanted to see some changes to my mid-section since that’s the area I wanted to see results. I have more definition of a waist, but it’s only slight. I think I might try to keep going w/ this diet, but slowly incorporate back some things because there are just too many restrictions w/ the Whole30 diet. I am still shocked by the results & surprised this diet really does work even though I feel like I’m ingesting the same or more calories per day. I guess you’ll never know unless you try it out. I’m glad I tried it & challenged myself. I feel pretty darn good about myself now that I am done & am happy that I do have enough dedication & drive to finish the challenge.

WOD –Katie’s Bday 1) 5 min AMRAP – 11 Pull Ups (red) & 22 Double Unders. My Results: 3 sets + 3 Pull Ups. Rest 1 minute. 2) 5 min AMRAP – 11 Ring Dips (blue) & 22 Box Jumps. My Results: 3 sets + 19 Ring Dips/Box Jumps. Rest 1 minutes. 3) 5 min AMRAP – 11 KB Swings (35lb) & 22 Reverse Lunges for Reps. My Results: 4 sets + 9 KB Swings.

I used the red band for pull ups & I was able to do at least 7 in a row w/ the kipping motion. That’s more than I’ve ever done, so I’m getting stronger, slowly, but surely. I didn’t do too well w/ double unders but after a little while, I got the hang of it. For the 2nd AMRAP, I did the best out of everyone in my class, although I did have the blue band to aid my ring dips. I do pretty well w/ the box jumps & I can do them faster than the others in my class, so I’m pretty psyched by that. The last AMRAP also went really well. I breezed through the KB swings & the reverse lunges weren’t too bad. Again, I did the best out of everyone in my class so that made me a happy camper. That was a great way to end the rainy day. We finished by doing 4 minutes of front planks. I held it for 2 minutes straight & couldn't hold it any longer. I finished the rest  in 30 sec increments.

Crossfit Day 79, Nutrition Challenge Day 30

November 8, Tuesday
Workout
– After yesterday’s WOD, I feel more energized & motivated to hit CF. I think I was in a slump all of last week when I missed most of the week due to the freak snow storm we had. Now I’m pumped up again. Thank goodness I haven’t lost my motivation. My 4th month of CF is officially over this coming weekend. I think I won’t be doing unlimited month for the next 3 months due to holidays & vacation times, which will cut into my time at CF. I’m not sure how I’ll feel or if I’ll see progress w/o going to CF so often as I’ve done in the past 4 months, but I’m hoping I can keep up w/ some of the WODs at least in my office gym or at home, if at all possible.

WOD – 5 Rounds 50 Double Unders, 5 Muscle Ups (sub 15 Pull-Ups (red band) & 15 Ring Dips (blue)) for Time. My Results: 28:50 minutes.

We did a WOD from 7/12 & 8/23. The first time I did it, I didn’t do all double unders because I was pretty bad at it. And did pull ups (green band) & ring dips (blue). The 2nd time I did it, I used red/purple band for pull ups & my time was 33:10 minutes, so I was actually faster this time around by 4:20 minutes! I’m a happy camper knowing I’m progressing along. I’m much better w/ double unders now, but I still need a lot of work. I’m getting at least 5 kipping pull ups (using red band) now, which is more than I’ve ever done. I’m really forcing myself to kip so I can do more in a row so I don’t kill my shoulders. It was a tough WOD, but it did feel great to finish.

Crossfit Day 67, Nutrition Challenge Day 8

October 17, Monday
Workout
– I’m happy I was able to cook foods yesterday so I’m not starving today & I won’t be wasting a lot of time during the week to cook & end up eating dinner extremely late. I’m feeling okay today w/ the Nutrition Challenge. It’s Monday so I usually have tons of food, but come Friday, the stash usually dwindles & I end up not having enough food to last me the day. I will try to ration the best I can but those sweet potato fries, although not baked to the way I would like, are still mighty yummy.

WOD – 30 Wall Balls (8lb), 30 Box Jumps (20”), 30 KB Swings (35lb), 30 Burpees, 30 Pull-Ups (red) – Part 1 – 3 minute AMRAP, 1 min rest, Part 2 – 5 minute AMRAP, 1 min rest, Part 3 – A for Time. My Results: Part 1 – 40 reps, Part 2 – 75 reps, Part 3 – 15:19 minutes.

The air is crisp & cool now, which means it’s downright COLD for me! I hate this weather. The gym was freezing to me & I wasn’t really warmed up before we started the WOD because it was just so cold in there. We did the 3 min AMRAP & the wall balls were killing me. I just couldn’t get it over the line & had to re-do them. It was so frustrating. I was the last one out of 6 people to finish them to get to the box jumps. When the 3 mins were up, my throat was burning from the cold air. I needed water to help me breathe properly. Then it was onto the 5 min AMRAP. The wall balls were brutal again, but I whizzed through the box jumps faster than everyone else. It’s one of my few strong exercises. I was happy I got to the kb swings. I was happier this time w/ my performance, but my throat was still burning from the cold air. More swigs of water for me, which I almost never do during a WOD. Then it was onto doing the entire WOD for Time. I was able to control my wall balls & get it over the line & hit the wall each & every time, so I didn’t struggle at all this time. I had brief rests in between to ensure I didn’t get air balls. I actually finished it 2nd this time! Whoo hoo. I was tired for the box jumps, but I did my thing steadily & finished it before anyone else. Off to do the kb swings & I was getting even more tired so I rested every few reps, but I finished that before anyone else & then got to the darn burpees. Gosh I really do hate them. I was nearly crawling on the floor, but still finished & was the first up for the pull-ups. I am still using the red band because I don’t think my shoulder can handle it. I got through about 10 before anyone else was on the bars. Then I had to rest after every one pull-up because my arms were failing me. K, the only guy there finished before me, but I wasn’t too far behind. Afterwards, I just couldn’t feel my upper arms anymore. It was pretty brutal. I did 3x20 GHD Hip Extensions afterwards to stretch myself out a little bit.

Crossfit Day 66, Nutrition Challenge Day 5

October 14, Friday
Workout – I’m feeling tired today. I get the munchies more often now that I am restricting my diet. There’s so much foods out there that has soy products in it. Chocolate bars has soy lechitin for goodness sakes. Why would a chocolate bar have soy in it?!? Grrrrr. Not that I crave chocolate much but I wanted the boost of energy from a chocolate bar. We’re not allowed soy so that is out of the question. Lucky I brought my remaining soup to work because that really helped stave off my hunger pangs.

WOD – 10-20-30 Goblet Reverse Lunge (2-for-1) 35lb, Pull-Ups (red) for Time. My Results: 17:15 minutes.

We started w/ 5-10-15 Deadlifts. We start with a heavy set of 5, then drop ~10% off the bar & do 10. Then drop another 10% off & do 15. Sets should be touch & go, no releasing of the hands. I was able to do 115-95-75lb for the deadlifts. They got really tough when we added more repetitions to the lower weight. I need to keep working on my deadlifts. We started the WOD. The 2-for-1 Goblet Reverse Lunges (holding the kettlebell on your check & up to your chin) were really difficult. I felt like my arm muscles were going to pop out of my arms. Then we had to do pull-ups afterwards. My arms were exhausted. The bad part of this WOD is that the numbers goes UP instead of down, so we have more reps to do as we progress. My arms were failing for the remaining pull-ups so I had to rest after each one. I don’t know how others do it unassisted. I went down to the red band now but it’s still very difficult for me.

Crossfit Day 62, Nutrition Challenge Day 1

October 10, Monday
Workout
– Today is Day 1 of the Nutrition Challenge. We are not to eat any grains, rice, pasta, quinoa, oats, peanuts, corn, wheat & the like. I’m feeling a big of a headache right now. I’ve eaten no meat today. I’ve only eaten veggies, fruits & nuts. I feel full but I think that’s because of that time of the month, which keeps me from not realizing when I’m hungry. I think the headache is a good indicator that I might still be hungry. I feel tired too so it might be due to my period along w/ being hungry. I won’t be able to tell for at least another 2 days because of my period. Oh this stinks.

WOD – Rich’s BDay WOD – Complete the following 20 intervals of 46 seconds of work followed by 14 seconds of rest -

Air Squats
Hand Stand Push Box Push Ups
Air Squats
Pull Ups (red/purple)
Air Squats
Hand Release Push ups
Air Squats
Abmat Sit Ups
Air Squats
Box Jumps (20")
Double Unders
Hand Stand Push Ups Box Push Ups
Double Unders
Pull Ups (red/purple)
Double Unders
Hand Release Push ups
Double Unders
Abmat Sit Ups
Double Unders
Box Jumps (20")

My Results: 460 Repetitions.

Oh what a WOD it was today. I didn’t think it would be too bad, but boy was I wrong. The air squats went pretty well. I did at least 30+ every time. When I finally got to the box jumps, I let out a grunt & Ron (the trainer) laughed because after doing over 150 Air Squats, I had found my legs my legs didn’t want to cooperate on the box jumps! Then it was onto the Double unders. I only did 10 reps for the first set because I had my sneakers on. Once I took them off, I was able to get at ~30 reps. And I’m much better at it now. I think I was able to do 20 consecutively, although it does tire me out. The 2nd half was definitely more difficult & I was getting really tired. By the time I was done, I just crumbled to the floor & laid there to catch my breath.

Crossfit Day 55

September 28, Wednesday
Workout
– Again, butterflies in my stomach just thinking about today’s WOD. I’m wondering if all this nervous energy is good for my system. I can’t imagine it is beneficial to my body.

WOD – "Angie" 100 pull-ups (red/purple), 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 air squats for Time. Results: 32:30 minutes.

Oh my goodness, the 100 pull-ups were a killer. It took me over 16 minutes to finish them. After the 1st 47, I had to rest after every 1 pull-up. It was so difficult & I had to use bands. D, Mich & Mo did unassisted ones. Mich modified the WOD so she did 4 rounds of 25 though. Mo tore her skin on her hands after 50 pull-ups, so she did 2 rounds of 50. D did them straight, so that’s mad diesel. I tried real push ups, but my arms were shaking a lot after 8, so I switched to knee push ups. The sit ups were probably the easiest for me although it still took awhile to do 100. I was able to do 40 air squats w/o resting, & the next 60 were slower, but I did them in a decent speed. I couldn’t feel my upper body after the WOD. The joys of CF!

Crossfit Day 50

September 21, Wednesday
Workout
– I still get super nervous before a WOD. And the longer the trainers take to get us started, the more nervous I get. Grrrr…I hate being so nervous, but I think that’s the beauty of CF. If you don’t get nervous, that means you’re not really challenging yourself anymore. My body has been sore this entire week, especially after the kb swings & box jumps. My right arm is still bruised up from the double unders. At least all the HIIT (high intensity interval training) is really working muscles that I wouldn’t normally use & that is why I’m always sore. It’s a good sore. I like it.

WOD – “Nasty Girls” 3 Rounds 50 Air Squats, 21 Pull Ups, 21 Ring Dips, 10 Hang Power Clean (42) for Time. My Results: 17:15 minutes.

The air squats were pretty easy. I get into a low squat & I just bounce up. The pull ups started out ok. I alternated w/ the ring dips half way to rest my arms a little. It worked pretty well until the last round. The pull ups are always difficult for me. I always have a feeling I’m not doing the hang power cleans properly, so I’m trying to be more aware of my form. I stayed w/ 42lb because I think any higher & I’ll definitely lose my form. Afterwards, we did 4 minutes plank. I was determined to stay upright as long as possible w/o rest. I did 3 minutes straight until my abs gave way. I rested 15 seconds, & then was up for the last minute. I’m proud I did 3 minutes straight! Others were impressed too, so it was awesome. I’ll aim for the total 4 minutes next time.

Crossfit Day 48

rudie2shoes vs double unders
Winner: double unders

September 19, Monday
Workout
– I am extremely sore today. I’m not sure if it’s from last Friday’s WOD or if it’s from the 2.5 hours of Pilates I did this weekend, but whatever the cause, I’m SORE! My hips, thighs & glutes are tight. I have a suspicion it’s from all the squats & lunges I did last week @ CF. I am dreading today’s WOD. I hate double unders. They are the bane of my existence (that & burpees & wall balls & pull-ups & toes to bar and and and…).

WOD –50 Double Unders, 5 Pull-Ups (purple & red band), 40 Double Unders, 10 Pull-Ups, 30 Double Unders, 15 Pull-Ups, 20 Double Unders, 20 Pull-Ups, 10 Double Unders, 25 Pull-Ups for Time. My Results: 18:21 minutes.

We started w/ Back Squats today. 3-3-3-3-3. I did 65-85-95-105-110lb. 110lb is my personal best thus far. I felt like I could have done at least 115lb so I think that will be my next goal. We started the WOD & I struggled a bit w/ the double unders. I had to take my shoes off, yet again, to do them. I would get a good 10 or so in, then struggle w/ one for the next 10 tries. I kept whipping myself on the arm too. The 5 pulls ups were decently easy, but as the numbers increased, the more I struggled. The next few rounds of double unders got easier as the numbers went down. The last 2 sets of pull-ups (20 & 25 reps) really got to me. I would do 5, then 2, & then start doing 1 & rest, then 1 more, then rest. It took me forever, but I finished them the best I could.

Crossfit Day 46

September 15, Thursday
Workout
– I feel pretty good today. I’m going to do a Navy Seals workout w/ D today. I’m scared because it sounds super hard.

WOD –Navy Seals workout – 4 Rounds 2 Rounds 400m Run, 50 Burpees, 50 Jumping Lunges, 50 Pull-Ups (red/purple), 50 Jumping Squats (+ 400m Run at the end) for Time. My Results: 47:20 minutes.

D & I decided to try to do 2 Rounds & then added an extra 400m to finish. It was a really tough workout. My legs felt like putty during & afterwards. I can’t believe it took me over 47 minutes just to finish 2 rounds. Imagine I had attempted 4 rounds, that would have taken over 1.5 hours! That’s just nuts! D made me practice my hand stands again. I reluctantly went to the wall. A was there & she used to be a gymnast & she coached for 8 years, so she helped me get over my fear of hopping into my arms & then swinging my legs up. I was getting closer & closer each time. I got more comfortable w/ it & I was finally able to get up on my own! I mean, sure, I didn’t stay up for long, but I think w/ more practice I would be able to. It’s so exciting!!! I’m ecstatic about it. It’s another small accomplishment for me. I’m super excited to practice it some more until I get comfortable w/ it.

Start of Month 3 - Crossfit Day 43

September 12, Monday
Workout
– I am tired today. I haven’t been sleeping well because I’ve been going to bed late reading “Snow Flower & the Secret Fan.” I know I should get more rest so that I can do work & work-out more efficiently, but I am weak when it comes to reading a good book. I am dreading today’s WOD because it requires 1000m row & I am absolutely horrible at rowing. I’ll just have to do my best.

WOD – 1000m Row, 50 DB Thrusters (45/30), 40 Pull-Ups (blue & purple band), 30 Burpees for Time. My Results: 19:58 minutes.

We started off doing Overhead Squats. I stayed w/ the 22lb bar because any heavier & my knees start to turn in & my upper body doesn’t cooperate. I was able to do more than I have ever done before. My upper body still needs to get stronger, but I am slowly getting there. There were 10 ppl tonight so we split into 2 groups. I was in the 1st group w/ 6 girls. The trainer actually showed me what I was doing wrong at the beginning of the row so I kept trying to use what he showed me & I felt like I didn’t fatigue as much as I did before. I have to extend my arms out & then bring it back in before my knees go back in. I will have to keep practicing. I was the last girl to finish the rows. But I still finished them in a little over 5 minutes so that’s still good for me. The DB thrusters weren’t too bad after the first 25, but then it got heavy & tiring. I rested after 3-5 repetitions so that I could finish. I was the 1st to finish those, then onto the pull-up bar. I was able to do 4-5 at first, & then it dwindled down to 1-2. The last 11 took me a long time to finish. I did one, & then had to rest. Lastly were the burpees. I sure do hate them. I did them slow & steady & was able to do 15, then I was tired & things went slower from there. I was crawling part of the way, but I kept my eye on the clock. I wanted to finish them before 20 minutes & I was able to do that! Haha It’s the little things that matter to me. Afterwards, we did 3x15 Reverse Hypers. I did 3 sets of 10s, then 1 set of 15s. They were tough & require you to use your butt & hip muscles. It’s a new machine so I’m sure w/ time & practice, they will be easier to do.

Crossfit Day 39

Workout – Not sure what I will be doing today. I just don’t want to have to drive through flooded roads again. I’m afraid the water damaged my car.

WOD – “Schmalls” – 800m run, (2 Rounds of 50 Burpees, 40 Pull-Ups, 30 Pistol Squat (modified holding a pole), 20 KB Swings (35lb), 10 HSPU (modified w/ Box Push Ups)), 800m run My Results: 43:34 minutes.

D found this WOD somewhere online so we decided to do it together. By the time I started my burpees, I was about to kill her. 50 burpees in a row is a lot! I was having a rough time going through them, & then the 40 pull ups were a killer. The pistol squats were new to us & we needed to hold onto a pole for support in order to do them. They were ok for the 1st round, but the 2nd round was really difficult. KB swings went well, although it gets your heart rate up really high & you feel winded afterwards. I modified the hand stand push ups w/ box push ups. I was dying by the time I did round 2. I was amazed I even finished. I seriously wanted to give up. D finished a good 5 minutes ahead of me, but I really didn’t care. I just wanted to finish, period. And that I did, huffing & puffing & ready to strangle D!

Crossfit Day 37

rudie2shoes vs double-unders
Winner: double-unders :(

August 30, Tuesday
Workout – We have 2 – 10 min AMRAP today for the WOD. OMG, that’s just nuts! Nervous energy surrounds me thinking about it. I’m already fatigued by the though of it. *sigh*

WOD – 10 minute AMRAP – 250m Row, 10 Box Push Ups. My Results: 5 sets + 46m Rest 5 minutes AND 10 minute AMRAP – 25 Double Unders, 10 Pull-Ups (red & purple). My Results: 3 sets + 18 double unders.

Hurricane Irene, you are wrecking havoc in my life! Yes, I got detoured again today. All the roads I needed to use to get to CF were closed. I was stuck in the middle of the swamp trying to find my way out. Thank goodness GPS works today but it was still hard trying to navigate my way out of the swamp. I ended up getting onto the highway & then found it was backed up w/ tons of traffic. I was about 30 minutes late even though I left work an hour early. I finally made it & was positive I wouldn’t be able to do my WOD, but since a Fundamentals class was starting at 6:45pm, the trainer let me do my WOD on my own. *whew* But doing a WOD by yourself really do suck. I had another trainer time me & he was sitting right next to me as I did my row. It’s really different when you have someone watching your every move. The rowing really gets the best of me. 5 minutes of rest is just not enough, & then I had to start my 2nd AMRAP. Good grief. The double unders were my nemesis again. I just couldn’t get a good rhythm down but I think that was because I was fatiguing from the 1st AMRAP. I could only muster 3 sets & even that was a struggle. I took off my shoes which helped me do double unders before. I still had a hard time. As you can see from the picture above, the jump rope was not kind to my feet. We did 2x30 GHD Sit-ups afterwards. Travelling back home was also treacherous since my route is a lot farther since Hurricane Irene wanted to put roadblocks everywhere I needed to go. I hate you, Irene!!!

Crossfit Day 32

August 23, Tuesday
Workout – No headache today. Thank goodness. I had good sleep last night so I think that was the culprit. Sleep really does cure all ailments.

WOD –(Same as Day 5 on 7/12) 5 Rounds 50 Double Unders, 15 Pull-Ups (red & purple band), 15 Ring Dips for Time. My Results: 33:10 minutes.

We did this WOD on my 2nd day of my unlimited month, but I only attempted 20 double unders + 100 single jumps & the pull-ups w/ the green band, so the WOD was slightly different, but I can say I can now do more double unders in succession (~10 w/ a single jump in between) & I now use the red/purple band for pull-ups. The ring dips haven’t changed w/ the use of the blue band. My time today was 12 seconds slower compared to 7/12, but that is because I actually did 50 double unders for each round & my pull-ups are more difficult. I am still proud of my accomplishments. After 5 minutes of rest, we had to do 50 Toes to Bar. I only did 25 but I was finally able to do 2 REAL Toes to Bars!!! I was pretty excited since I was never able to do it before. Yippee! All in all, it was a challenging WOD & I was able to accomplish one thing on my list & that was to do a complete Toes to bar.
