Crossfit Day 109 | Nutrition Challenge Day 10

January 25, WednesdayWOD –”Diane” 21-15-9 Deadlifts (95lb), HSPU (box Push Ups) For Time. My Results: 6:10 minutes.

We did a pre-workout beforehand. We had to do 3 rounds not for time of: 10 Lunges, 10 Supermans, 20 second planks. This was fun to do w/ everyone because there was no time constraint & it was funny looking doing it. Then we started “Diane.” The deadlifts went okay. I didn’t feel any pain in my left knee so I think it’s getting better. The box push ups were ok as well. One day I will be able to do handstand push ups, but today isn’t the day. I worked on handstands afterwards & A helped me w/ some tips & I was able to get up & hold the handstand for at least a minute, so that was pretty exciting. We did 90 second L-sit Holds afterwards. They are pretty tough because it’s a lot of abs & flexibility as well. I was able to do them at about 15-30 seconds at a time. It got rough towards the end but I’m happy I can do them.

NEAC Workout | Nutrition Challenge Day 4

January 19, Thursday
Workout – I will go check out the local gym, New England Athletic Club, to see if there’s a class I can take tonight. I always want to try out something new!

I worked on my Front Squats at the NEAC. I started w/ 45-55-65-75-85-95-105-115lb. I couldn’t do anymore. That’s already my PR, I wanted to see if I could do more. I wasn’t able to lift any heavier, but in time I think I will be able to. I also did some kettlebell swings, sit ups, planks, double unders & stretches for an hour. At 6:30pm, I took the Body Pump class. It’s produced by the BeachBody (P90X, Insanity) group & I wanted to see what the hype was about. I thought it wouldn’t be challenging for me, but my butt got kicked. The instructor told the newbies to start w/ a lower weight, so I went w/ 10lbs. Wow, did that 10lbs get heavy fast. The class is not about heavy weights, but lots of repetitions, so you do get a really good workout. There were parts where I was getting really tired. We don’t do reps like these at CF. The bicep & overhead parts were the hardest for me because of my shoulder issue, but otherwise, it went pretty well. I think it’s a good class for women to take since many do not do any weight training. I doubt I would take something like this again though considering I already do CF & that totally kicks my butt everytime!

Crossfit Day 102

January 10, Tuesday
Workout – The legs took a beating from the front squats, so my quads are all sore. I think I should get use to this feeling of soreness from now on. The WODs have all been pretty difficult & challenging, which is good because my body has not gotten used to this at all, even after 6 months of beating. I thought I was getting a bit tired of CF, but I was wrong. I am still pretty motivated by CF & just being in there w/ the camaraderie I feel w/ my fellow CFers makes the WOD that much more bearable.

WOD –25 Double Unders, 5 Deadlifts (83lb), 15 Burpees, 50 DU, 10 Deadlifts, 15 Burpees, 75 DU, 15 Deadlifts, 15 Burpees, 100 DU, 20 Deadlifts, 15 Burpees For Time. My Results: 19:15 minutes.

This WOD was pretty brutal. I struggled badly w/ the first 25 Double Unders. I was messy & I didn’t get even 1 for the longest time. People were already doing their 50 double unders when I finally finished my first 25. It was completely & utterly frustrating. I was ready to quit, but I honestly would never do that. I finally found my groove when I hit the 75 DUs. It took me long enough to warm up. Sheesh. I was trying to catch up & I actually did, so I’m happy about that. Although I know I could have done better, I at least didn’t quit & continued & kept working hard at it. It’s been over 3 weeks since I’ve done DUs, so it was to be expected. Next time I will need ample DU warm up time so I don’t go through this frustration again. We finished by doing 2 minute side planks on each side. Those were a killer to my abs.

Crossfit Day 95

December 13, Tuesday
Workout
– I’ve been gone from CF for 5 days & I’m really not feeling motivated. I didn’t get enough rest either since I just came back from Toronto last night. But I know I’ll feel better once I’m there, so here’s hoping for the best.

WOD – 4-8-12-16-20 reps of Pull Ups (red), 2 for 1 Jumping Lunges, Ring Dips for Time. My Results: 12:57 minutes. Rest 3 minutes. Run/Row 1000m For Time. My Results: 6:42 minutes.

I think the pull ups went fairly well. I didn’t burn my stomach this time, though I still have a scar mark from Bradshaw. The jumping lunges got annoying, but still were okay. The ring dips went ok. I wanted to row, but since I was the 7th person to finish, I didn’t want to have to wait another 3+ minutes until someone was done, so I went for the run instead w/ MV. It was dark & cold outside & I was wearing a tank top, but I still went out there w/ my light. I know I could have done faster, but it was dark & I really didn’t want to risk a twisted ankle. Plus I was wearing my new New Balance Minimus Train sneakers w/ Vibram soles, so I was afraid I would be extremely sore afterwards since I’m not used to running in “barefoot” technology & am trying to ease myself into running barefoot. Luckily, my legs felt okay afterwards. We ended w/ 4 min plank. I did 3 mins uninterrupted, then the last minute w/ rest in between. I was a bit slow today, but I still felt good afterwards.

Crossfit Day 71, Nutrition Challenge Day 12

October 21, Friday
Workout – I’m feeling okay w/ the foods thus far. I like it that I’m making my food & trying out new recipes. It’s actually fun & I love experimenting & finding something that actually tastes good. It’s Friday & I’m looking forward to practicing my front squats. That’s on my list of goals for the end of the year so any practice is helpful.

WOD – Tabata – Row – Ring Dip – Air Squat (20 sec reps, 10 sec rest for 4 minutes for each exercise) My Results: 7 Row + 3 Ring Dip + 14 Air Squats = 24 reps. (Only counted the lowest reps for each exercise).

Front Squat – 5-5-3-3-2-2 Start @ 80% of 1RM & attempt to increase each set. I did 43-54-64-74-84-94lb. I’m happy w/ the Front Squats. I think I am getting stronger, so I’m hoping to do about 105 next time & maybe 115 soon to meet my goal. This is so exciting! My personal best is 96, which I didn’t do this time. We started the WOD w/ one group starting w/ the Row, which I was in the 2nd group starting w/ the Ring Dips. I was doing about 10-12 at the beginning, but then my arms started to get really tired & I ended up doing 7 as my lowest rep, which was still decent. Then off to row. The highest I got was 4 calories, but I ended up w/ 3 as my lowest. Then off to do the Air Squats. My legs were tired from the Row, so my first 2 sets were really low coming in at 15 & 14. The rest of the 4 minute Tabata, I was doing 16 or more. At the 7th set, I was able to do 20 in 20 seconds. I don’t know why I torture myself because only the lowest one counted, but I still pushed myself even until the end. I was still happy w/ my performance though. We finished w/ 2 min Front Plank & 1 min Side Plank (on each side). I was able to hold each one for the full time. I actually like planks because I can do them well. If only my abdominals will show. *sigh*

Crossfit Day 50

September 21, Wednesday
Workout
– I still get super nervous before a WOD. And the longer the trainers take to get us started, the more nervous I get. Grrrr…I hate being so nervous, but I think that’s the beauty of CF. If you don’t get nervous, that means you’re not really challenging yourself anymore. My body has been sore this entire week, especially after the kb swings & box jumps. My right arm is still bruised up from the double unders. At least all the HIIT (high intensity interval training) is really working muscles that I wouldn’t normally use & that is why I’m always sore. It’s a good sore. I like it.

WOD – “Nasty Girls” 3 Rounds 50 Air Squats, 21 Pull Ups, 21 Ring Dips, 10 Hang Power Clean (42) for Time. My Results: 17:15 minutes.

The air squats were pretty easy. I get into a low squat & I just bounce up. The pull ups started out ok. I alternated w/ the ring dips half way to rest my arms a little. It worked pretty well until the last round. The pull ups are always difficult for me. I always have a feeling I’m not doing the hang power cleans properly, so I’m trying to be more aware of my form. I stayed w/ 42lb because I think any higher & I’ll definitely lose my form. Afterwards, we did 4 minutes plank. I was determined to stay upright as long as possible w/o rest. I did 3 minutes straight until my abs gave way. I rested 15 seconds, & then was up for the last minute. I’m proud I did 3 minutes straight! Others were impressed too, so it was awesome. I’ll aim for the total 4 minutes next time.
